Keep an Eye on your Fence over the Winter

Lifestyle

During the winter months, our gardens can take a bit of a beating – strong winds, hail, rain and snow all add up to make our gardens not so lovely, and something that you should keep a particularly close eye on over the winter months is your fence.

Wood is vulnerable to the worst that the elements can throw at it so it makes sense to take good care of your fence, particularly over the winter months – bear in mind that fenceposts that are buried in the ground may also have unseen problems underground where the wood is in contact with the damp ground water.

You can apply treatments to wood outdoors that should go some way towards protecting your fence from the winter weather, but it is also a good idea to regularly check your fence for signs of damage or decay over the colder months in particular – the sooner that you notice a problem, the easier it will be to repair.

It is a good idea to have some spare wood on hand – visit a place like this timber merchants Southampton based Timbco where you can get a range of wood in many different shapes and sizes.

It may be that you need to repair one fence panel, or one of the fence posts themselves. If you have had a severe storm and your fence was weak, you may need to repair several parts of the fence – but hopefully if you keep an eye on your fence you can avoid having to do large repair jobs.
