How to Prepare Your Home for Viewings

Uncategorised

There is no doubt that selling your home can be one of the most stressful times in life. There are multiple elements to consider when you have made the decision to relocate, including preparing your home for viewings. This may seem like a daunting task, so let’s break down some of the key factors to remember when getting ready for a viewing.

First Impressions are Everything

Whether it is a prospective buyer or a surveyor conducting a house survey, the first impression of your home is essential. If you have a front garden, make sure it is neat and tidy rather than overgrown. Clear the front of your house of any blemishes, such as dirty windows or peeling paint. The best way to check is to stand in front of your home yourself and do thorough inspections before any viewings take place. Try to fix any small DIY jobs that you can spot as well – be it inside or outside – as this will also guarantee a good first impression.

Declutter as Much as You Can

There is nothing more off-putting than tons of clutter when viewing any home. Again, this is relevant if you are having a house survey or a potential buyer visiting. If your home is full of bits and bobs in every nook and cranny, your viewing is likely to end poorly. The key is to get the perfect balance when it comes to decluttering. Don’t take away everything that gives your home some personality, especially the aspects of it that make it feel particularly homely. You want a buyer or surveyor to feel like this could be a forever home. Be brutal with yourself when it comes to decluttering, but don’t strip your home of everything that makes it special whilst doing so.

Keep it Neutral

Neutral colours are a great way to display your house during viewings. It is hard to actively dislike neutral colour schemes, due to their universal style. Bright colours, however, can be off-putting for those who are not fans of such vibrancy. By keeping it neutral, you are giving viewers the opportunity to see the potential of what they could turn your home into. It is much easier to paint a picture in your mind of what you want your home to be when you have a blank canvas.
