If you have stressed of late with everything going on in the world there is little as pleasurable as slipping into a luxurious hot bath after a long day.

If you’ve been pouring in bubble bath all these years, you might be surprised to learn that there are some weird and wonderful things you can add to your bath that have a variety of benefits. Here are just a few, and you’ve probably got them at home already:

Epsom Salt

Adding some Epsom salt to your bath is great for aching muscles and relieving any tension. It helps to make skin smooth and soft, can be added to almost any bubble bath concoction and is also great for dry skin conditions.

Alcohol

You might not want to waste this, but you don’t have to drink it. Pouring some booze into your bath water can help with any redness or inflammation from the polyphenols in it and it also contains some wonderful anti-aging properties. The best alcohol to try is either champagne or red wine – if you can spare it!

Ginger

Ginger is an ideal substance to add to a bath thanks to its detoxing powers and its help with easing headaches. If you’re feeling unwell, try adding ginger to help you sweat out toxins and aches from colds or flu. Ginger can also help with both nasal and chest congestion. It can cause a reaction for those with sensitive skin, so if in doubt, test it on a patch of skin first.

Oatmeal

Not just for eating, oatmeal can be used for irritated or itchy skin conditions. It helps to soothe skin and is a great addition to a bath for anyone suffering from sunburn for example. Male your bath time even more special with a new, elegant tub to relax in.

Coconut Oil

For those seeking baby-soft skin, coconut oil is the best thing to add to your bath. Just one tablespoon provides benefits including anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antifungal and anti-microbial properties.

Lavender

Lavender has long been known as a relaxing and sleep-promoting herb, so is the perfect choice for a deeply relaxing bath followed by a good night’s sleep. You can use either lavender oil or dried lavender.

Milk

There’s a good reason why Cleopatra decided to bathe in milk – it’s great for your skin. It has both softening and exfoliating properties due to the lactic acid and is even said to be a soothing remedy for eczema. Just be sure you have a good rinse off afterwards!

Tea

Just a few teabags dropped into the water is an easy and highly effective way to put some life back into your skin. The best choice is green tea, but chamomile is also good for relaxing before going to bed.

Honey

Things might get a little sticky but if you want an anti-bacterial, anti-aging and highly moisturising substance, look no further than honey for your next bath.

Roses

 

More than just a romantic gesture, rose petals or rose water in the bath not only smells beautiful but also offers anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and moisturising benefits. Try rose milk for the ultimate in luxury, indulgence and skin care.
