How to Cope in Hot Weather

Fashion

Whilst many of us dream of warmer weather and brighter days, the reality can also mean issues with body confidence and feelings of discomfort, especially when temperatures hit record highs.

Whilst you may not imagine the UK being a prime spot for sun seeking, some of the hottest places in the UK can rival their balmy European counterparts. The UK has seen a steady increase in regional average temperatures since the 1960s.

Tips

Always be sun-safe when the weather is at its warmest. Wear a high factor sunscreen, invest in a sun hat and protect your eyes with high-quality sunglasses.

Warm weather peaks between the hours of 11am and 3pm. If you are struggling to cope, stay inside during these hours or ensure that you stick to shaded areas when outside.

Avoiding strenuous physical activity or things that raise temperature between these hours is also advised.

Keeping hydrated by drinking plenty of water is essential in hot weather. Opt for cold drinks, and avoid caffeine.

Open windows during the night when the air is at its coolest. During the day, keep blinds and curtains closed so that your indoor space remains shaded.

Cool showers can help you to feel refreshed and bring down your skin temperature.

Clothing for Hot Weather

Wearing cool, light and comfortable clothing is recommended in high temperatures. Avoid dark colours, and stick with items that allow air to circulate around the body. Floaty skirts, dresses or shorts – all allow the skin to breathe.

Specialist clothing such as anti chafing shorts can help you to feel more comfortable whilst still wearing your favourite outfit. By wearing anti-chafing shorts under your favourite skirt or dress, you can still feel cool and confident whilst preventing the discomfort of skin on the legs rubbing together and causing sore, irritated or clammy skin. These make for a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe or your suitcase when travelling to warmer climates.

Anti chafing shorts allow you to celebrate your silhouette by dressing in a way that promotes body confidence.
